BUILDING WITH OCTAGON EAST OF ST GEORGE

There were found two similar octagonal buildings. Sothern building exists no longer. The Northern is preserved as a part of the archeological ensemble and is situated eastern of Saint George Church. Both building can be divided into three parts - the octagonal shaped room, western room and southern room. North of the northern octagonal building were found pieces of the ancient road surface. All the founded remains state that the building has possessed an impressive inner space. Along the southern part of the same building were erected large halls with hipocaust heating system (special heating system created by the Roman Empire that was placed in the floor or in the walls).
The building was probably turned into a church in V century. The function of the building before being temple is not yet clear. It is presumed that it had a civic function.
